LAW 5024 :
Litigation Drafting

** 3L Students Only ** *Litigation Drafting in the Real World* Successful litigators must master the varied writing tasks and techniques that the litigation process demands. This course will be taught by an experienced professor with over 35 years of varied litigation experience, and is designed to equip students with the writing skills they will need to succeed in a litigation-oriented practice in, for instance, a law firm, law department or government agency. Class sessions will include detailed litigation drafting instruction and, to further prepare students for entry into a litigation career, the professor and the students will "brainstorm" and work together on litigation drafting problems as would a senior partner and associates in a litigation department. Students will learn practical, analytical and effective methods that will enable them to draft clear and effective communications with clients and counsel, and "real world" legal memoranda, pleadings, discovery requests, motions and briefs, mediation memoranda, trial briefs, jury instructions and other documents used in litigation matters. The course includes one-on-one coaching sessions in which students will receive individualized guidance to improve their litigation drafting skills.
