Islamic Law
This seminar is a survey of the historical development of Islamic jurisprudence and interaction of Islamic law and the modern nation state, with a focus on Middle Eastern and South Asian countries. Among the topics discussed will be gender issues in Islamic family law, legal pluralism and Islamic law in the United States and India, and the modern day conceptualizations of the Islamic state.
