Falvey Library, located in the center of the campus, provides a variety of services to help all students excel.
Collections: The library’s electronic and print collections include more than one million books, tens of millions of journal articles, as well as audio-visual and other types of materials. The library’s e-books and e-journals are available 24/7 and can be accessed anywhere in the world through the library’s website: http://library.villanova.edu. If a student needs a title that the library doesn’t have, library staff usually can provide a copy of an article within 24 hours of request and a book within a few days.
Copies of select course materials are available at the library. Faculty may place print copies of the required and recommended readings for classes on reserve at the library’s service desk or course materials may be available electronically via Brightspace. A list of eBook versions of select course materials also available from Falvey can be found at https://library.villanova.edu/about-falvey/library-initiatives/e-book-matching.
The library also contains Distinctive Collections that include the University Archives and special collections of unique and rare materials. Many items from these distinctive collections have been digitized and are available at http://digital.library.villanova.edu.
Services: Subject librarians are available to assist students throughout the year. Librarians can help students learn the skills and tools needed to find, evaluate, and cite information sources for research assignments. Students can chat online, email, call, or visit the library to work with a librarian. Students looking for an in-depth consultation are encouraged to schedule a meeting with a librarian. For more information: http://library.villanova.edu/research.
Librarians have also created many self-help guides to assist students with the research assignments. Guides are available on many subjects and topics as well as for specific courses at http://library.villanova.edu/research/subject-guides.
The Learning Commons, located on the second floor of the library, provides academic support services for students. Services include the Center for Access, Success, and Achievement (CASA); Learning Support Services Office; Math Learning Resource Center; and Villanova Writing Center.
University Technology Services’ TechZone is located on the first floor and provides help with connectivity, VPrint, software, hardware and other technical problems.
Facilities: The library is a highly valued location for student study. It will operate in its current space until the move to the newly constructed Vic Maggitti Hall in mid-fall 2026. In the library's transformative new home, Falvey Library will provide a variety of 24-hour places to work, ranging from silent individual study, to areas that allow quiet conversation, to 50+ group study rooms for highly collaborative work. The popular Dugan Polk Family Reading Room located in the existing building remains available for student study 24 hours a day.
The building will also feature a digital scholarship lab where students can learn how to use digital tools and techniques such as data visualization, text analysis, and mapping in their research. The library also has computer workstations, high-speed printers, and scanners located on the first floor. If students need a break between study sessions, a café and patio will provide relaxing places to recharge.
Community Engagement: Falvey Library is the center for academic life outside the classroom and strives to provide a welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds and abilities. The library hosts hundreds of events for the community each academic year, ranging from scholarly lectures, to cultural events, to activities that support student well-being. The library has a meeting room and tabling space available for use by official student groups. For more information see: http://library.villanova.edu/events/general.
