LAW 8060 :
Externship:Committee of 70

The Committee of Seventy is best known as the "watchdog" of Philadelphia elections. This non-partisan organization, however, is also dedicated to improving the quality of representation by elected officials by demanding ethical conduct, promoting government efficiency, educating citizens, and improving voter turnout. Visit www.seventy.org for more information about the Committee of Seventy. Students participating in this externship will spend 12 hours per week working at the Committee of Seventy's Center City office. The extern will work closely with the Director of Voting Rights and Election Reform (and possibly the Policy Director), primarily researching and writing about municipal and election law issues. The extern may also have the opportunity to draft testimony delivered to Philadelphia City Council. Finally, the extern will be able to assist in organizing our Election Day Program, where hundreds of volunteers visit polling places around the City every November and May. The extern should have a strong interest in election law, voting rights, and the integrity of Philadelphia government.
