LAW 7161 :
Adv Environmental Law Practice

This course adopts a practice-oriented format to expose students to environmental and land use problems as they are encountered by practicing lawyers. Each year the course will partner with a nonprofit group or governmental agency in the area that has identified a specific issue it is confronting that would benefit from detailed study and evaluation by a small group of law students. The students in the course will work as a group to prepare a report and proposal that they will present to the partner organization at the end of the semester. Evaluation (grading) will be based on a student's contribution to the group projects as well as a limited number of short reflective papers over the course of the semester. For the Fall 2014 semester, the course will partner with the Lower Merion Conservancy, a community nonprofit organization that seeks to preserve open spaces and historic heritage. The students will prepare and present a report and recommendations to the Conservancy regarding a monitoring and enforcement policy for its conservation easements. Advanced Environmental Law Practice is open to third-year students who have completed, Environmental Law, Natural Resources Law, or Land Use Planning and who have a demonstrated ability to excel in an independent, self-directed working environment. The class size will be extremely limited. If you are interested in enrolling in the course, please send Professor Aagaard a short statement describing your interest and qualifications and a copy of your resume and law school transcript.
