Declaration of Major

To ensure students are progressing towards an undergraduate degree in a timely manner, all undeclared students must officially apply and be accepted for their primary major of study no later than the term in which they will reach 72 total credits earned. This includes all credits, those earned at Villanova, transferred from other institutions, test credits, prior learning, etc. Once a student declares a major, they remain eligible to change their major and/or add additional programs. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their advisor regularly to develop an individualized academic plan.

A registration hold will be placed on a student’s account who is not accepted for a major by the required term. This hold will prevent students from future registration activities (i.e. adding, dropping, or withdrawing) until it is cleared. To clear this registration hold, undeclared students must apply and be accepted for a major.

Students must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 to be formally accepted for a major.

To apply to a major, students should submit the Add or Change of Major/Minor/Concentration Form via MyNova. To access this form, students will need to log in with their Villanova single sign on credentials.
